SiteMinder identified five important accommodation trends that will shape the upcoming year based on a recent survey of more than 8,000 travelers in 10 markets around the world. The analysis is in accordance with the hundreds of thousands of hotel bookings that SiteMinder processes every day. The markets include: Australia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and USA.
The Macro-Travel Trend
Almost nothing has the power to stop the planet from traveling. Inflation is now having “little” to “no” impact on the majority’s travel and accommodation choices, according to the survey results, but a recent survey by McKinsey & Company places travel second on the list of priority expenditure items, way behind shopping and dining out.
The Digital Influence Trend
The vast majority of travelers want to hear from accommodation providers online, whether it be in the early stages of planning, through a search engine, via Instagram days before check-in, or by email weeks after a trip has ended.
The Bleisure Trend
Following pandemic lockdowns, WFH came to mean “working from home” and “working from holiday,” and the concept of the “bleisure” traveler was formed. By 2035, it is expected that there will be one billion digital nomads working around the world, making it crucial for accommodation providers to comprehend this population and take effective action to meet their demands.
The Trust Trend
Younger generations are driving this trend, which is compounded by external causes, and 64% of travelers worldwide say that if their accommodation provider isn’t employing technology properly, it will “likely” or “very likely” impact how they view the business.
The Human Connection Trend
Despite enjoying the comforts that technology may offer, many visitors still associate their lodging with meaningful human interaction, and increasingly, the ability of their property to serve as a springboard for the community.
