The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge in China is the longest bridge in the world and the longest bridge in Asia. The entire length of this viaduct-style bridge is 102.4 miles (164.8 kilometers). A special kind of bridge called a viaduct is built from a sequence of arches, columns, or piers. It is perfect for building a direct overpass across broad valleys, roads, rivers, or other low-lying terrain, linking two places of similar elevation. In this instance, the Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou is crossed by the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge, which spans a 5.6-mile stretch of open water parallel to the Yangtze River.
